The much awaited first game of the season ended in a comfortable victory for the Irons, as we walloped the Spurs 8-4 at Hackney Marshes this morning.

Worldnet: all expectations exceeded

Worldnet 2k proved an overwhelming success for the Irons this weekend.

With a squad which was reduced from 18 in number to 13 within the space of a few days last week hopes were far from high. But the boys did us proud in the end; narrowly missing out on qualification from the Group stages on Saturday, then making yesterdays Plate final - only to go down to Arsenal (again!) on sudden-death penalties.

For further details see the match reports page.

Sunday 9th July

Ipswich Town 0 Irons 2

The Irons made it three wins from three in the Worldnet warm up matches with a narrow victory over Ipswich's Punch Drunk in Billericay this afternoon.

A goal either side of the break were enough to earn all three points for the Irons in their final IFA League game of the season.

Despite the relatively close result the Hammers enjoyed the lions share of possession, and but for a lack of clinical finishing would have won the game by a much bigger margin.

In the end a Martyn Drury scorcher and a deflected own goal were enough to ensure all three points.

Ipswich details

We're playing Ipswich this Sunday at Hannakins Farm, Billericay - it's a 2pm kick-off. This is a new venue as far as home games are concerned, but it's a nice set-up - and there's a bar onsite! The pitch is Astroturf, so leave the boots at home.

Click here for the Streetmap (use the zoom out function for a wider view) - the arrow points directly to Hannakins Farm.

Sunday 2nd July

Brentford 0 Irons 9

The Hammers pulled off another comprehensive victory in West London this morning with a nine goal mauling of new boys Brentford.

Brentford, one of the latest teams to join the internet football circus were never in the game as the Irons strength and guile overcame the youth and persistance of the home side.

Six goals to the good at the break, the Irons stepped off the pedal in the second half as the home side bravely made a game of it. However, the outcome was never in doubt as the Hammers rattled in three more goals to earn a well deserved victory.

Match report here.

Sunday 25th June

Brentford details

We're playing a friendly at Brentford this coming weekend; it's a 10.30am k/o so be there for 9.45-10am.

Full details as follows courtesy of Paul from Brentford:

Directions to Warren Farm:

About 2.0 miles north of Gilllette Corner (A4) take A4  (Gt West Road) to Brentford following signs towards Hounslow/Heathrow etc at junction with Syon Lane (B454) this is what is known as Gillette Corner, you really can't miss it, it's a very big tower.

Turn right at Gillette Corner, you will soon travel past Tescos on your right followed by Grasshoppers and Centaurs RFC on your right also. At Wyke Green and Osterley Gdn Centre bear right continuing on the B454 which becomes Windmill Lane.

Go under the M4; after a further 0.7 miles just as there is a very big SPEED WARNING notice the entrance to Warren Farm Sports Centre is opposite the notice. The entrance is a bit concealed if you're travelling in this direction.

The entrance to Warren Farm winds on for about half a mile (and you begin to wonder if you're in the right place); eventually you will see a ramshackle Nursery Centre (which looks like its falling down) just ahead of you. The football pitches are just behind here.

Another fixture

In the third of our pre-Worldnet warm-up games we'll be entertaining our country cousins Ipswich at a venue to be announced. The match will take place on Sunday 9th July.

Worldnet 2k - 22nd/23rd July

The Worldnet 2k website is now online - point your browsers toward http://www.internetfootball.org/ for more info.

If you haven't already seen the draw we're in Group A alongside Luton, Arsenal, QPR, Birmingham and Hibs. The first three sides are 1,2 and 3 in the league at the moment, so it should be a tasty day's football!

The Brum of course are old foes who we've had many a fair old battle against, and the Hibs are a fairly decent side too, so it's all to play for. Bring 'em on ...

This year, and for the first time a plate competition will be held on the Sunday (23rd July) for those teams that fail to qualify from the group stage. So whatever the outcome on the Saturday (22nd) you lucky lads have got two full days of footie to look forward to!

Intergills 2 Irons 6

The irons strolled to victory in Strood this afternoon against Gillingham's Intergills.

The irons, just 1-0 up at the break despite completely dominating the first half took command after the interval to strike five times, despite suffering some worrying moments as the Gills made a fight of it early on.

Its where the road splits into two - and you can either follow the M2, or turn of towards Gillingham, Rochester and Strood. Turn off and follow the road to the right hand side - this goes towards Strood. The sports centre is down on the right hand side. Follow the sign posts from the main road to get into the car park.'

No disgrace in Derby

The Hammers travelled to Derby today to take part in the inaugural Sheepshaggers Cup.

Despite missing several first team players the Irons managed to come away with heads held high, winning one, drawing one and losing one each of their games.

For a full report on the day click here.

Sunday 28th May

Sheepshaggers directions

Here's the directions for next Satuday's Sheepshaggers tournament in Derby courtesy of Tom from Derby.

'Venue: Darley Fields, Chester Green, Derby

From Nottingham/ London - come in on the A52 from the M1 (note this is not the first Derby junction you'll come to on the M1).

Follow the A52 past Pride Park on your left until you get to a roundabout. You need to turn right up the A61 towards the A38 north.

Follow the A61 (there will be a park on your right and car showrooms on your left) til you get to a roundabout. Hampshire Road will be right, you go left on to the A608 but take an immediate left on to what I think is Old Chester Road, Follow that straight across another roundabout and the car park is on your right at the end.'

Saturday 27th May

Saturday 8th April

Cybury Gunners 7 Irons 5

The irons went down to an experienced Gunners side in a closely fought friendly at Hendon this morning.

Goals from Yuri, Paul, Kirk, Junior and Gray were not enough to avoid defeat for an irons side missing several key players.

Another case of 'bare bones' probably. Full report to follow soon ...

Tuesday 4th April

New kit arrives

The new kit has arrived this week in time for Saturday's big derby game with the Gooners. Big thanks to Don Perretta for doing the business on this one.
