Muddy Bloke on Hackney Marsh

Brentford 0 Irons 9 - 02/07/00

The Hammers pulled off another comprehensive victory in West London this morning with a nine goal mauling of new boys Brentford.

Brentford, one of the latest teams to join the internet football circus were never in the game as the Irons strength and guile overcame the youth and persistance of the home side.

Six goals to the good at the break, the Irons stepped off the pedal in the second half as the home side bravely made a game of it. However, the  outcome was never in doubt as the Hammers rattled in three more goals to earn a well deserved victory.

We all arrived well in time for the somewhat early 10.30am kick off - all except poor Russell who decided to walk from the nearest train station. What he didn't realise was that is was four miles from the ground, hence his arrival halfway through the first half.

So with only nine Irons at the off, we borrowed a couple of the Brentford lads to make a side up. But it wasn't long before the Hammers took the lead - the first of several excellent corners from Raisters was nodded home at the far post.

After that it was West Ham all the way. The Brentford lads were all on the young side and more often than not came out second best in the 50/50's, which gave us superiority in possession and the opportunity to pepper the home goal with shots.

The teams wait patiently for another Greenway clearance to emerge from beyond the clouds

Unlike last week at Gillingham we managed to turn these into goals - six of them in fact by the break. That was the cue for a few changes which actually worked against us as we took our foot of the pedal, and Brentford came close on several occasions to breaking their duck.

However, we remained steadfast and resolute and a quick break on the right side culminated in our seventh goal, which was the signal for the white flag from the home side. Robbie O decided he'd had enough and let Darren have a run out on pitch, during which time we managed to knock in a couple more.

Down the pub after the game with the Brentford lads; very nice too, especially the two blonde sorts strategically positioned in front of our table. Anyway, all in all another good away day for the Irons, and another three points for our dismally low league total.

Next week we'll be entertaining Ipswich (well as long as we can find a pitch) in the last of our Worldnet warm-up games.
